Quantum Summer School 2026
From August 31 to September 10, the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science at the University of Gdańsk hosted Q-Camp 2026 – a two-week summer school organized in cooperation between the University of Gdańsk and Kainos. The theme of this year’s edition was “Quantum technologies are reshaping the foundations of secure communication.”
Q-Camp received approximately 50 applications from around the world, from which 25 participants were selected. The summer school brought together 43 students and instructors from a dozen countries.
The classes were held in the form of lectures and practical sessions. The learning outcomes were assessed through a final test, the results of which were compared with those of the entrance exam taken at the beginning of Q-Camp. Participants also had the opportunity to present their knowledge, experience, and presentation skills during speed talks – short, three-minute presentations designed to showcase an ongoing project, research, thesis, or simply an area of interest in quantum technologies.
The best presentations were selected. First place for the best speed talk went to Bronisław Krawczyk (Wrocław University of Science and Technology), while second place was awarded to Ionela Balint (Politehnica University of Timișoara). Nitin Gupta (Jagiellonian University) received an honorable mention.
Q-Camp provided students and researchers from around the world with an opportunity to connect and integrate at the University of Gdańsk and at Kainos’ headquarters. The program also included trips around Gdańsk and Gdynia, offering participants both fascinating insights and impressive views.
The distinguished group of instructors included the program coordinators of this year’s and last year’s editions: Dr. Akshata Shenoy and Dr. Antonio Mandarino from the International Centre for Theory of Quantum Technologies (ICTQT).
The teaching team also included:
-
Prof. Yeong-Cherng Liang (National Cheng Kung University)
-
Prof. Marcin Pawłowski (ICTQT)
-
Dr. Dustin Moody (National Institute of Standards and Technology)
-
Dr. Karthik Hosapete-Seshadri (ICTQT)
-
Prof. Christian Majenz (Technical University of Denmark)
-
Dr. Moein Naseri (ICTQT)
-
Dr. Ashutosh Singh (University of Calgary)
-
Dr. Markus Grassl (ICTQT)
-
Dr. Konrad Schlichtholz (ICTQT)
-
Prof. Romain Alléaume (Télécom Paris)
-
Dr. Grzegorz Rajchel-Mieldzioć (BEIT.Tech)
-
Prof. Gustavo Lima (University of Chile)
-
Wadim Wormsbecher (Bundesdruckerei GmbH)
The practical sessions were led by tutors from ICTQT: Fernando Almaguer-Angeles, Idriss Hank Nkouatchoua Ngueya, and Aravinth Balaji Ravichandran.
At the closing ceremony of the summer school, Prof. Marek Żukowski, Director of ICTQT, gave a speech. Certificates of participation and commemorative gifts were presented by Patryk Jar (Kainos) and Dr. hab. Marcin Marciniak, University Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science at the University of Gdańsk.
Q-Camp 2026 was not only an opportunity to explore the latest developments in quantum technologies, but also a unique occasion for exchanging knowledge, experiences, and inspiration. We would like to thank all participants, lecturers, tutors, partners, and organizers who contributed to this exceptional event. Thanks to their commitment, openness, and passion, the summer school became much more than a series of lectures and classes – it became a meeting place for people united by curiosity about the world and a fascination with quantum technologies.
We hope that the knowledge, inspiration, and connections gained during Q-Camp 2026 will stay with the participants for a long time and become the starting point for joint projects, research, and scientific adventures. See you at the next edition of Q-Camp!
